It's been a few weeks since I had to finish this series of articles on choice (article 1: why is it difficult to choose and article 2: 9 tools to learn to choose) and the reason for my silence was nothing other than my inability to make a choice...
These last few months I have been very divided in my life choices. Keeping my job, leaving my job, staying in Nelson, leaving Nelson, going back to my freelance job, changing careers...
My need for freedom is often seen as instability, yet it is when I am free that I want to stay the most...
I turned the problem upside down and always felt a bit paralysed at the thought of starting all over again. When I came back from France, I made the decision: I gave my notice at work. It's now been 3 weeks since I've been "free" again and I must admit that I can breathe... I feel much lighter, happier... It's a strange coincidence when you know that the title of this article, which remained in my drafts for weeks, was :
What if not choosing was preventing yourself from being happy?
In the end, this is so true. It is not our choices that make us unhappy, but those very same choices that have the power to make us happy.
So for this last article on choice, no long "blabla", no long paragraphs, but one last tool: a simple list of affirmations formulated from my listening, reading and discoveries on the subject. A few simple sentences, like a reminder to help you live your choices with more simplicity.
It is the way we approach the choice that holds us back. By thinking that making the wrong choice will inevitably involve disappointment and frustration, we open the door wide to these feelings.
Choices are an integral part of our lives. There is no escaping them.
If there are too many choices, sort them out.
Not choosing is letting the world write your life for you. READ THAT AGAIN.
It's not what you don't choose in your life but what you do choose that has the power to make you happy.
A rational choice is not a good choice. Listen to yourself, trust yourself and choose with your gut.
If you make your choices reversible, your chances of being happy are reduced by 60-70%. That's more than half... Choose and move on. Make your choices irreversible.
Hard choices are an opportunity for us to rewrite our history, to make it our own, it's not a curse, it's a blessing.
